14 DAY TRIAL // A UK-based security guard has shot to Internet fame after his holiday request was accidentally forwarded by his boos to the entire company.
Greg Heaslip wanted to take some time off from his job patrolling a warehouse, so he sent an email to his line manager at Arcadia Group asking for the annual leave.
But what started out as a simple vacation request ended in a free trip to Las Vegas and other freebies, as Greg's boss forwarded his request to 3,500 employees working at Arcadia, the retail company that manages fashion chains Topshop, BHS, and Dorothy Perkins.
Mr. Heaslip peacefully went to sleep after his night shift, unaware of what was going to happen. After receiving the email, Greg's colleagues at Arcadia rallied to support his request on Twitter, and the hashtag #givegregtheholiday was born.
Things escalated pretty quickly on social media, and soon enough, local companies jumped in to give Greg his holiday and other gifts. Travel company TrekAmerica even offered Greg a free trip to Las Vegas.
“When we saw the story on Twitter, we knew we had to help Greg. Everyone knows the sinking feeling when you make a social blunder. After the day we imagine Greg has had, we thought he deserved a break,” the company stated, according to Metro.
Arcadia Group later revealed that Heaslip’s holiday request had been approved before the crazy Internet campaign.
Greg was certainly thrilled and surprised by the amazing support people showed. However, recent reports indicate that he wouldn't be taking up the free trip offer. Instead, he decided to donate the freebies to charity in support of Stephen Sutton's cause, and he intends to do what he originally planned – go to Chesington World of Adventures with his wife and young daughter.
