SouthPeak Games, as the publisher, and TimeGate Studios, as the developer, have announced that their upcoming Section 8 futuristic shooter will get a beta for the PC on August 10. The testing period will be aimed at European gamers and will allow them to see how the experience is shaping up while offering crucial feedback that could help iron out any last minute problems that the developers did not catch.

All those who are interested in getting in on the open beta can visit the official site and register there. They will be contacted by the beta team if they are chosen to take part in it.

The places for the beta are limited so all those who would like to take advantage of it should hurry and keep in mind that they will only get access to the multiplayer aspect of Section 8. The multiplayer matches will be hosted on dedicated servers provided by the developers, so the game experience should be pretty good.

Section 8 is trying to re-invent the multiplayer aspect of first person shooters by introducing interesting innovations. Players are not spawned anywhere on the map, rather they can choose where to drop in from orbit, deciding on the speed at which they are inserting.

The load outs can also be changed on the fly and there are a variety of perks that a player can choose for their character in order to maximize their fighting abilities. Section 8 is team-oriented and the matches feature missions based on escorting and assassinations, the main mission being that of controlling enough bases on the map while eliminating the tickets of the other team.

Section 8 is set to arrive on the PC and on the Xbox 360 in September. It will be nice to see whether the multiplayer innovations are enough to attract players who are now playing the likes of Halo 3, Gears of War 2 or Modern Warfare.
