Heidi Klum says the secret to ageing well is in not becoming too thin or toned

Heidi Klum, one of the most beautiful women in the fashion industry right now and still a very successful model despite being 37 (which equals very old in modeling years), knows the secret for aging well: never get too thin.

The star is the cover girl for the latest issue of Self magazine and, of course, there’s also an interview with her inside the pages of the mag, with Heidi dishing out a lot of good advice for all women out there.

For instance, she does away with the belief that women should aspire to be thin especially if they’re over 35. Being too thin or too fit will only add years to their face, the star explains.

“The ultimate beauty secret for a woman getting older is, Don’t be too thin! It is always better to have a little meat on your bones. When you are just muscle, you end up being gaunt in the face, and that makes you look older by 5 or 10 years,” Heidi says.

Then, women should just stop fretting so much about growing older. For Heidi, for instance, age is but a number because she’s long accepted that life means change and, on the same note, growing old is also change.

“I don’t think of getting older as looking better or worse; it’s just different. You change, and that’s OK. Life is about change. I don’t have anxiety about it, so I’m not running to get Botox,” Klum says.

“Maybe that will change, but I don’t think so. I feel comfortable in my skin and comfortable with aging, so I think it’s OK that I get wrinkles,” she adds.

Of course, Heidi does more than just think positively about the process of growing old and what comes along with it: she also makes sure she gets enough sleep.

Aside from getting plenty of exercise and eating only what she knows is good for her, Heidi also goes to bed at a very early hour, she reveals in the same interview.

“I go to bed at 8:30 most nights,” she says. She also stays out of the sun but gets her tanning fix with self-tanner. “I like how it looks, but sometimes I leave gold shimmery marks all over!” she laughs.
