Engineers at the NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC), in Florida, are seen in this image as they were conducting work to install replica shuttle main engine (RSME) number 2 on the orbiter Atlantis.

The spacecraft is currently located inside the Orbiter Processing Facility-1 (OPF-1). Three such replicas are scheduled to be installed aboard the shuttle, since NASA needs the actual engines for a series of tests, and perhaps for use in other spacecraft.

The Space Shuttle Program is currently in its transition and retirement processing phase, which means that all orbiters are being decommissioned and prepared for exhibition. Discovery is already at its new home, at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, in Washington, DC.

Atlantis will soon be displayed at the KSC Visitors Center, while Endeavour is scheduled to be delivered to Los Angeles this September. The latter will then be permanently displayed at the California Science Center.
