The emerging markets in Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East are ideal for second-hand PCs, Gartner says.

According to Gartner's definition, a second-hand PC is a system which has been used for more than three months by the initial owner. The demand for such systems is on the rise and as their performances increase so is their life cycle.

Gartner considers the market for second-hand PCs will increase even more over the following years, because at the moment the demand greatly exceeds the offer.

The conclusion of the Gartner report is that in 2005, for every 2 PCs sold on the mature markets, one will be sold as a second-hand one.

The majority of the distributors involved in selling second-hand PCs are found in the US, Japan and Western Europe.

Gartner has identified that there is a constant increase in demand for such PCs on the South American market and certain regions in Asia as well.
