Cryptic Studios, as the developer, and Atari, as the publisher, have announced that the Season Three update, labeled Genesis, for the MMO Star Trek Online is now officially set to be released on December 9, 2010 bringing a host of changes to the video game that is based around the successful science fiction franchise.

There are quite a few new additions coming as part of Season Three:

Borg Technology – all players who take part in Special Task Force missions can now get access to Borg made equipment which can then be integrated into their own ships to change both their abilities and the way they look in game;

Episode Replay – all players will be now able to access and play all missions they have previously enjoyed;

New Sector Space – the way this area of the video game looks has been approved in order to include feedback for players and bring it closer to the feel of the franchise;

The Foundry – this feature will still be in the beta stage but it will allow players to design their own missions and then share then with other players, with a proprietary system that allows them to be rated so that the best missions are enjoyed by as many people as possible.

The Season Three update is free for all those who have paid their subscription up to date for Star Trek Online.

The MMO has been seen as a sure fire hit, benefiting from the built in audience of Star Trek fans which follow the franchise wherever medium it chooses to express itself.

But many players complained that when it officially launched the MMO lacked a big chunk of content and that some of the mechanics were simplistic.

Since launch Cryptic Studios and Atari have worked hard to add more content and fix all the problems the MMO currently has with more Season updates.
