fireCore has announced a new release of Seas0nPass, the Open Source Apple TV jailbreak tool, which now permits untethered jailbreaks using a Macintosh computer.

Hosted at fireCore with an Open Source label, Seas0nPass is a jailbreak tool for Apple TV 2G which can create a custom Apple TV IPSW and restore the system to the jailbroken firmware.

Previously, the solution only allowed for a tethered jailbreak.

“Today we're happy to release an updated version of Seas0nPass (for Mac) that includes an untethered jailbreak for the AppleTV 4.1.1 (iOS 4.2.1) software,” fireCore writes.

The developers credit the Chronic Dev Team (makers of Greenpois0n) for the untethered jailbreak process.

“Seas0nPass for Windows is also being finalized with the untether and will be available soon,” fireCore notes.

The hackers also note that the latest version of aTV Flash (black) is now compatible with Seas0nPass, GreenPois0n and PwnageTool jailbreak solutions.

Those who’ve already jailbroken with greenpois0n RC 6.1 do not need to re-jailbreak, as both Seas0nPass and GreenPois0n employ the same exploits, according to fireCore.

To download the updated Seas0nPass or to find users guides on how to achieve a proper jailbreak, interested parties are being told to visit Seas0nPass.com.

Those who proceed with using Seas0nPass to jailbreak an original (untampered-with) Apple TV will not need to download the iOS 4.1.1 / 4.2.1 IPSW. The tool will do this on its own, automatically, in order to create the custom firmware.
