Hosted at fireCore with an Open Source label, Seas0nPass is a jailbreak tool for Apple TV 2G which can create a custom Apple TV IPSW and restore to the jailbroken provided that the user tethers the set-top box to a Macintosh computer.

Built exclusively for Apple’s second-generation TV gadget, Seas0nPass makes it very easy to jailbreak the set-top box by creating custom IPSW much like the iPhone Dev Team’s PwnageTool does.

Since the very reliable PwnageTool already supports jailbreaking the Apple TV, Seas0nPass arrives as a mere alternative, for those who feel that its interface and commands are easier to follow.

Additionally, Seas0nPass offers the option to perform a one-click tethered boot.

Users will need a micro USB cable to perform the jailbreak using a Macintosh computer.

Unfortunately, fireCore does not specify which version of Apple’s desktop operating system is supported by Seas0nPass.

The jailbreak tool, however, is said to support the latest version of the Apple TV firmware - namely iOS 4.1.1 (or iOS 4.2.1, as referenced by Apple in the IPSW file designation).

OS X Daily thoughtfully points out that those using the Seas0nPass to jailbreak an Apple TV that hasn’t been tampered with will not need to download the iOS 4.2.1 IPSW, as Seas0nPass will do this on its own, in order to create the custom firmware.

Also worth noting is that Seas0nPass is currently available for Mac OS X only. A Windows version is under development, according to those familiar with the developers’ plans.

This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
