Seagate, one of the leading makers of computer storage solutions, has decided to remind us of our old Maxtor hard disk drives by introducing a new dual-drive network storage server, dubbed Maxtor Central Axis Business Edition. Essentially designed to meet the storage requirements of small businesses, the Central Axis Business Edition network storage server is said to provide a simple, automatic backup with solid data protection and secure remote access to critical business information.

"Today a device that offers simple and secure network backup is a requirement for every small business or home office," said Stephen Baker, vice president of Industry Analysis at The NPD Group. "As this product segment and the awareness for it grow, buyers will be looking for devices that address these core feature sets."

Seagate's newly unveiled Maxtor Central Axis Business Edition has been basically designed for small-office/home office (SOHO) and small business environments. Among several other features, the storage server can provide automated backup for up to 20 networked computers, while also allowing for users to save up to ten historical versions of information and schedule incremental backups.

The  Central Axis Business Edition can be equipped with two 1TB hard drives which can be set up in RAID 1 configuration for a maximum of 1TB of completely protected storage. According to Seagate, the protection level of the date stored on this drive is ensured by a feature the is called "synching without thinking". This basically duplicates files across both drives each time it is saved, thus preventing the loss of valuable records should hardware failure occur.

Offering access both locally and remotely, the new Maxtor Central Axis Business Edition allows users to connect to it, via an Internet browser, enabling easy and secure sharing of business content. The solution provided by Seagate eliminates the need for an FTP server. In addition, the Central Axis Business Edition is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Mac OS X operating systems, providing support for a multi-platform office.
