Seagate, one of the world's leading vendors of storage solutions, has announced today the availability of its new Cheetah 15K.7 enterprise-class hard drives, designed to deliver enhanced performance to a wide range of server and storage applications. According to the Scotts Valley, California-based company, the new solution is capable of providing customers with the industry's first 15000RPM drive to reach 600GB in capacity, while the MTBF is said to be at 1.6 million hours.

“Bell Micro's customers continue to require added capacity and performance for their server and storage systems, but many also must focus on finding ways to lower a system's total cost of ownership (TCO) or easily integrate new solutions using existing platforms,” said Joe Cousins, vice president of Marketing at Bell Microproducts. “We're pleased to now offer the Seagate Cheetah 15K.7 family of drives that fill these critical needs. For users looking for the most advanced technology to create new premium systems, or those who are looking to extend the life of their existing systems, the Cheetah 15K.7 delivers the low TCO and promise of easy integration for businesses of all sizes.”

According to the manufacturer, its Cheetah series of 15K.7 drives is now available in 6GB/s SAS and 4GB/s FC interfaces, also featuring the company's PowerTrim technology which is meant to dramatically reduce the power consumption of these high-end drives. The new Cheetah drives from Seagate are built for high-performance servers and storage solutions, providing users with a high level of performance in an energy-efficient package.

There's no word on pricing for the company's highest-capacity Tier 1 drive, but considering its performance capabilities and its overall features, prices will probably be higher than average. The drives are available in various capacities, ranging from 300GB to the new 600GB model.
