The machines are supposed to make life more entertaining for the captive animals

SeaWorld has announced that, in an attempt to make life more entertaining for its orca whales, it will install so-called killer whale treadmills.

What they mean is that the captive animals' tanks will be fitted with machines that will generate waves, Ecorazzi explains.

SeaWorld expects that, once they get the chance to goof around in these waves, the marine mammals will forget all about the fact that they are forced to live in what is best described as a bathtub, and will grow more fond of life in captivity.

Granted, the waves produced by these so-called treadmills will make the tanks resemble the whales' natural habitat to a certain extent, and the orcas will get the chance to exercise a tad more than they presently do.

However, the marine mammals will still be living in captivity. And that's not OK.
