According to a statement released by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS), their ship the MY Bob Barker, is currently making headway through the Southern Ocean, after refueling and resupplying in Wellington, New Zealand.

Now that everything is in working order, the vessel is returning to chasing the illegal Japanese whaling fleet from the Southern Ocean Marine Sanctuary. For those of you who still don't know, a moratorium signed by the UN in 1986 bans commercial whaling anywhere in the world.

For the past few years, Sea Shepherd has been sending ships in the Southern Ocean, in order to deter Japanese vessels from killing up to 1,000 whales yearly for “scientific research.” The Bob Barker did so this season as well, but it had to break off the chase at one point due to low supplies.

The MY Bob Barker is currently heading towards MacQuarie Island, where it will rendezvous with the other SSCS ship, the Steve Irwin. The latter will be resupplied as well, and then both will resume their chase.
