With new technologies being launched all the time, and some of them being promising but often not natively supported in even current-generation systems, there are always reasons to come up with converters and adapters capable of acting as a mediator. Already, there are USB 3.0 PCI Express adapters, HDD docks, NAS devices with USB and eSATA and a host of other controllers and interface converters that substitute for built-in compatibility. Seeking to at least get close to an all-in-one solution, Scythe has unleashed the Kama Connect Plus, an SATA and IDE adapter meant to allow HDDs, ODDs and other storage media to externally connect to a system.

The product measures 62 x 101 x 30mm and is compatible with 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch hard disk drives, as well as 5.25-inch optical drives, including ATAPI drives (2.5/3.5/5.25" HDD or Optical Drive, IDE/E-IDE, ATA 33/66/100/133). Additionally, with support for the Big Drive standard, the Kama Connect 2 supports HDD capacities of up to 2TB, as well as DVD and Blu-ray devices.

SATA and IDE devices that are attached to the corresponding connectors are linked directly to the host PC via USB, with the possibility of an IDE and a SATA drive operating at the same time.

The Kama Connect Plus is based on the Kama Connect 2, but comes with card readers and an extra pair of USB ports. As such, in addition to just the aforementioned HDDs and ODDs, end-users will be able to plug in a number of SD, Mini SD, SDHC, Mini SDHC and MMC cards. Furthermore, the Kama Connect Plus is compatible with Compact Flash Type I, Type II, Type II-HDD and Micro Driver, as well as Memory Stick ROM/PRO/Duo/PRO Duo media.

Compatible with the Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7 operating systems, the Scythe Kama Connect Plus is priced at 29.35 EUR, or US$ 39.95.
