While the floppy disk drive is now considered a legacy device with few or no modern day applications, which are not even included on most high performance computer systems built by the major system integrating companies, there are some people out there that may yet find the old storage option a valuable addition to their computing experience.

Another problem with the company branded computer systems is that they usually do not include a memory card reader and adapter unit, so computer users who need such a device will have to separately purchase and install one. As most computer cases are coming with only one or two drive bays that can be used to accommodate a floppy disk drive unit or a memory card reader, purchasing and installing two such units will lead to a pretty crammed computer case and the engineering team from Scythe, a company best known for its cooling solutions, just came up with a brilliant idea of uniting the two devices into a single one.

This new product from Scythe comes as a combo unit that integrates a floppy drive and an 18 in 1 card reader and the new drive is designed to perfectly fit into a single 3.5 inch drive bay. In order to provide a maximum functionality for as may users as possible, the memory card reader part of the combo is able to read the most popular and widely used types of card, like the Compact Flash, Smart Media/Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO/Duo/PRO Duo, SDHC/SD/mini SD/micro SD/MMC/RS-MMC Card and MicroDrive/xD/xD Type-M/xD Type-H.

The combo drive unit from Scythe is available in two colors, black and white, and it is certified to work with the latest Microsoft Windows operating systems, like XP and Vista, while using for its connection needs a high speed USB 2.0 cable (the card reader) and a standard 34-pin data transferring cable for the floppy disk drive unit.
