Die-hard fans still have to wait some more, though

This was one of the most enduring franchises in the entire horror history of Hollywood, as well as the one to create the most impressive cult following out there. Contrary to other horror flicks, “Scream” even managed to be embraced by the critics – which is all the more reason to rejoice, now that details of a fourth installment have surfaced on the Internet.

Although nothing is yet official, and will presumably remain so for a while longer, BloodyDisgusting is claiming to have it from a very reliable source close to Dimension Films that “Scream 4” is definitely in the making. Moreover, the site focusing exclusively on horror movies informs us that we are also in for a grand surprise in terms of the cast, as the studio will attempt to recreate the glorious cast that took the first two films to the height of fame.

“They are making financial offers to David Arquette, Courtney Cox Arquette and Neve Campbell to play cameos.” BloodyDisgusting writes, citing the anonymous, but reliable source. Moreover, Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first two films and was credited for the characters on the third, “is going to start writing a draft, although it may or may not become the shooting script (which is typical),” it is being said on the aforementioned website.

The same ambiguity is manifest in what concerns the involvement of Wes Craven as well, the director who took the franchise to where it is now, in the Hall of Fame of horror films. “Wes Craven may or may not direct, but there is a very good possibility that he will return.” BloodyDisgusting writes, based on the unnamed source. The one thing that is, so far, certain is that the fourth installment will be, once it’s out, a “younger version” of the other three previous films. Whatever that means is yet to be determined.

Even if “Scream 3” somehow failed to raise to the expectations of fans and critics alike, the fact that the first two films in the series enjoyed such critical and public success will make it all the more difficult for the fourth to impress. However, until we get all hyped about something of which they only say it is in the early development stages, and of which no confirmation is available, it’s best to first wait for someone to go on the record with “Scream 4.”
