Is the Sniper really Australian?

Valve has been one busy developer lately, with the release of Left 4 Dead, its zombie killing post apocalyptic title, and with various improvements added to Steam. So, unfortunately for some, major updates for Team Fortress 2, the multiplayer game that shipped originally as part of The Orange Box, have been put on the back burner. Now, the developer is announcing, via the voice of Robin Walke, that it is putting the finishing touches on a major Scout update, in line with what the Heavy and the Pyro received, and that it will be out soon.

As always with Valve, “soon” might mean everything from “tomorrow” to “this year.” Still, as always with a major character update, Valve will be making quite a few changes to the way the game is being played, so fans are looking forward to that.

While they are waiting for the major update that will be built around the Scout, they need to watch out for a batch of smaller changes set to arrive soon. Aside from fixing bugs and game exploits that are not detailed by Valve, there are a few important game balance changes that players need to know about. The damage of the Heavy unlockable mini gun, affectionately called Natascha, is to be fixed, while the slowdown effect of the same weapon will be increased.

Valve is also saying that it plans to begin using Steam Cloud in order to store the unlockable situation for every gamer so that players can move from computer to computer without worrying for the load out of their characters.

On the essential question of why the Sniper, as presented in his video, is a “fake Australian,” Robin Walker said that “we thought it was appropriate that he was about as convincing an Australian as the Demoman is a Scotsman, or the Medic a German.” The Pyro is a fake Frenchman who refuses to talk. You heard it here first.
