“NCIS” fans, get ready because CBS has a huge surprise in store for you: not only are they working on an “NCIS” spinoff but they actually managed to land “Quantum Leap” alum Scott Bakula for lead, Deadline confirms.

The new series will be set in New Orleans and will be introduced through a “backdoor” pilot that will air as a 2-episode special on the original show.

Bakula will play Special Agent Pride and he will run the New Orleans office.

“Executive produced by NCIS showrunner Gary Glasberg and Harmon, spinoff is set at the NCIS New Orleans office which handles cases from Pensacola through Mississippi and Louisiana to the Texas panhandle,” Deadline informs.

“It centers on NCIS Special Agent Pride (Bakula), who embodies New Orleans. He’s driven by the need to do what’s right and does it all with warmth, passion, strength and humor,” the report further says.

The pilot will air this spring, but there’s no word yet on when the spinoff will follow. Are you excited about having Scott Bakula on board “NCIS”? Let me know in the comments section below.
