Scotland continues its plan of encouraging the development of the market of electric vehicles. The government decided to invest approximately £4.2m in order to convince the public to change their conventional cars with new vehicles which have a less devastating impact upon the environment.

Low carbon cars are the perfect alternative for people who try to comply with eco-friendly values. The government's present strategy is a continuation of the project started last year when £4,3 M were provided to purchase 145 such vehicles and also to sustain the creation of 74 charging points, exclusively designed for electric vehicles.

The project supported by the government has long-term objectives. First of all, the strategies are meant to sustain the industry of low carbon vehicles, the battery production, the availability of new charging point facilities.

Second, the officials follow a path that can guarantee an economical growth, by creating new jobs in times when unemployment rates represent an alarming issue.

The investment would eventually allow the government to keep under control the air-polluting emissions, by replacing a considerable number of diesel-powered cars with their eco-friendly, hybrid equivalent.

This new strategy was introduced to the public opinion only days after a study showed that the popularity of electric vehicles didn't reach the rate anticipated by the authorities.

Despite the fact that the government sustained the purchase of 8,600 such cars, only 786 car owners took advantage of the incentives offered for any purchase of this kind.

Nevertheless, the officials manage to preserve their optimism forecasting that, due to the new models of hybrids which will be launched on the market, the public will increase its interest towards greener alternatives for traditional vehicles.

"This exciting scheme has the potential to directly support innovative Scottish companies at the forefront of electric vehicle and battery production, and the expansion of these kinds of businesses will help support and create jobs, in turn supporting sustainable economic growth,“ declared Alex Neil, cabinet secretary for infrastructure and capital investment, stating the main advantages implied by a potential expansion of electric vehicles.
