Scientists still have no idea what color dinosaurs had

Only in the past couple of decades, the way we think dinosaurs looked like has changed a lot, if only because we now know that they had feathers, they were quite common among them.

Still, there are plenty of unanswered questions, bones preserve well as fossils, soft tissue doesn't.

There are only a few samples of fossilized dinosaur skin and, while those can give us an idea about the texture, they say nothing about color.

But scientists are on it, there is now a plan to try to determine what color dinosaurs had. They will subject a sample of fossilized dinosaur skin to infrared light to see how it bounces off, indicating the presence of certain chemicals.

But they're not just shining a remote control at the sample, they're placing it inside the Canadian Light Source synchrotron, a particle accelerator.

If scientists can determine what chemicals were present in the skin, they can take a guess at the color. Scientists are also trying to find out why the skin was preserved so well in this particular fossil.
