With May still a long way to go, when the latest installment in the “Terminator” franchise is theatrically released, hype on what must have been one of the most anticipated productions of the last years is slowly taking over the media. Director McG is not making it any easier for fans either, his most recent interviews hinting that not only Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will be making a cameo in the film, but also Sarah Connor.

Just the other day, when producer Dan Lin asked McG, on the occasion of a New York screening preview of the film, about the kind of surprises the film had in store, the director let it slip that the Governor himself might be making a cameo appearance. “I can’t talk about it. I can’t talk about the governor of California.” McG reportedly said, as per E!Online. If this is true, fans are already saying on dedicated forums, then this could actually turn out to be one of the greatest achievements of the film.

Speaking of cameo appearances, Sarah Connor could also be poised for a comeback in “Terminator: Salvation,” although this one might not be quite what we have hoped for. ComingSoon got to speak to McG after the screening, and what he said could certainly be held as indication that the Sarah character too is to be coming to the silver screen again – one way or another.

“After the presentation was over, we talked with McG at the cocktail reception that followed and asked him whether he planned on doing any sort of recap of the first two movies as an introduction for those who didn’t get a chance to see them. He said they were still trying to figure out what to do, but one option they came up with was to have Sarah Connor do a voiceover to open the movie.” ComingSoon reports. With all this, having Linda Hamilton reprise the role that turned her into a legend is still a distant possibility, but a possibility nonetheless.

On the same note, once with the screening, it has become clear that, while “Salvation” will stick to the mythology set forth by the other movies in the series, it will take on a different direction than the televised show “The Sarah Connor Chronicles.” From this to concluding that Lena Headey, who plays Sarah on TV, is most certainly not an option for the voiceover was just a small step that fans of the film have already taken.

“Terminator: Salvation” hits theaters on May 22, 2009. Until then, stay tuned here for more details, both regarding the rumored cameos and other surprises that this movie has in store for us.
