Sceptre, a company well known for its budget-friendly HDTVs and computer monitors, has just announced the availability of a new Full 1080P 40-inch LCD television set designed to rival the technology and quality of more expensive units.

According to the company, its latest solution is built around a proprietary LCD display with a brightness of 450 cd/m2, capable of achieving a dynamic contrast ratio of 90,000:1.

While that last figure may not be as impressive as the specs of other HDTV's launched in the last few years, one has to keep in mind that we are talking about a plain LCD panel here, one that doesn't feature LED backlighting as most other HDTVs available in the market right now.

Despite this clear disadvantage, Sceptre has somehow managed to keep the power consumption of the X405BV-FHD in check and it brags with a rather low $26/year bill in energy costs.

“Although possessing cutting-edge technology, the new 40-inch LCD remains affordable and environmentally friendly, costing an estimated $26 a year in energy costs,” said Cathy Chou, Vice President of Operations, Sceptre.

“A great centerpiece for any room, this unit possesses the ability to swivel up to 30 degrees, is wall mountable and is thin and sleek enough to fit into any space,” concluded the company's rep.

Outside of the special swivel capability, the Sceptre X405BV-FHD also offers SRS TruSurround XT sound, a 7-band equalizer, 4 HDMI ports, multiple sound enhancement options, including automatic noise reduction, and mpeg noise reduction.

The new X405BV-FHD is currently available through Wal-Mart's website and its pricing is set at $349.98, making it one of the cheapest 40-inch 1080p HDTVs currently available on the market.
