Actress says slimming was the biggest challenge for “Iron Man 2”

Earlier this year, in March, as Hollywood stunner Scarlett Johansson was still preparing to take on the part of Black Widow in the second “Iron Man” movie, rumors started to circulate about her choosing to lose weight for the role. While this was nothing unheard of, the amount of weight she seemed to have dropped was considered a bit too much, which instantly drew criticism in the media. As it turns out, the star only went on a diet and started to work out because she needed to fit the lycra suit, as CeleBuzz says.

Just like other actresses before (the case of Halle Berry for “Catwoman” is the first to come to mind), with the “Iron Man 2” part, Scarlett was put in a position where she could not fit into the body-hugging suit, or, at least, not look as good as she would have wanted in it. Therefore, getting in a better shape became a priority, so the star started training (which she rarely, if ever, did before) and being more careful about what she ate in order to look her best for the film.

“I kicked some major [expletive]. It was many, many, hours, days, and months of stunt training and strength training. But it’s fun because I had a goal. The goal was the Lycra catsuit.” Scarlett told People in a recent interview, as quoted by CeleBuzz. Reaching the “goal” was all the more important as the suit itself was a wonder to look at, the star recalls. “It was crazy to see it for the first time. Everything all zipped up and all the weapons in there, bracelets on, the whole look. It was pretty sweet, I have to say.” Scarlett said.

However, she did not achieve the killer, much slender frame with just training, since she also had to go on a diet – which, in her case, as director Jon Favreau says, meant she had to eat less. “I think people are going to be very impressed when they see her. It’s totally different than anything you’ve seen her do before. She was wearing an unforgiving costume. [Scarlett] didn’t eat much, that’s for sure. She likes food, as do I, and she was definitely on a low-carb diet and training very hard. It was amazing.” Favreau also dished in a recent interview.

Initially, some of those who noticed Scarlett’s much slender frame were quick to say that she was going against everything she believed about beauty and character, as well as all the things she had said in the past. Always vocal about her unwillingness to change her appearance with excessive working out or unhealthy diets, Scarlett seemed to have decided to lose weight simply out on a whim. Fortunately, turns out this is not the case.
