Recent weeks saw actress Scarlett Johansson, usually one of the most private celebrities in showbiz right now, involved in a leaked photo scandal. While the FBI is still investigating the case, the star has spoken to CNN about why she feels she should be entitled to her privacy just like everybody else.

Video with this segment of the interview is below, embedded at the end of the article.

As fans must know, Scarlett’s phone was hacked and personal photos were released online, showing the actress in compromising positions.

Perhaps the hacker operated on the assumption that Scarlett’s private life was not private, since she was a celebrity – so everyone else was entitled to see her personal photos.

That’s not the case, the actress says in the interview. Just because she’s an actress doesn’t mean that everything she does should be put into print and online.

“I think the question is sort of redundant. Who doesn’t want to protect their own privacy?” she says when asked of the steps taken to ensure her privacy isn’t breached again.

“Just because you’re in the spotlight or just because you’re an actor or make films doesn’t mean that you’re not entitled to your own personal privacy,” Scarlett tells CNN.

“No matter what the context, when that is sieged in some way it feels unjust, it feels wrong. I’ve gotten that response from many people that I’ve met now. They say ‘how do you deal with the invasion of privacy?’ I don’t know,” she says.

“To me it’s an adjustment. There are certainly instances I think where you give a lot of yourself, finally you just kind of put your foot down and say ‘wait, I’m taking it back,” the actress adds.

Her way of taking it back right now is by alerting the FBI that her phone had been hacked into and that personal photos had been released without her consent.

As of now, the investigation is still ongoing and we have no word of who the culprit might be.
