For the same price as the original version

As rumored not long ago, T-Mobile USA is now offering a new version of its Sidekick Slide handset, namely Sidekick Slide Scarlet. The new devices brings only one change when compared to the original blue one and that is, obviously, a change of color: the interior of the phone is dressed in a dark-red hue.

New colors are usually more than welcome when it comes to mobile phones, as they attract more interest from the consumers. This will probably be the case with the Sidekick Slide too, although it's a handset that doesn't bring too many advanced features.

Made by Motorola and introduced by T-Mobile under the Sidekick brand back in November 2007, the Slide's main advantage is that it lets users send text messages and emails, easy and quickly, thanks to its full QWERTY keypad that is unveiled when the screen is slid. And speaking of screen, it's a QVGA (240 x 320) TFT one that can display up to 65K colors.

The rest of the features packed in T-Mo's "texting machine" include: quad-band GSM connectivity, Music player (MP3, ACC and WMA supported), Instant Messaging (Yahoo!, MSN, ICQ and AOL), Bluetooth 2.0, a 1.3 Megapixel camera, a rather weak 225 MHz processor, 128 MB internal memory and microSD card support for up to another 4GB. There's also a 1130 mAh battery capable of providing a maximum of 7 hours of talk-time and up to 156 hours of stand-by time. The Sidekick handset weighs 5.59 ounces (150 grams) and, when closed, measures 4.7 x 2.4 x 0.7 inches (119.4 x 61 x 17.8 millimeters).

Just like the blue version, the scarlet one of Sidekick Slide is priced at $199, with a two-year T-Mobile contract agreement. The handset can be bought either online, from T-Mo's official website (found at this address) or from the carrier's retail stores across the US.
