A safety system stops the spinning blade when you accidentally touch it

Saws can be really dangerous even for experienced and inexperienced choppers (or Hollywood actors). One of the main reasons behind wood-cutting accidents is attributed to workers who let down their guard. Another one is the saw's kickback. In both of these circumstances, victims will start complaining about the stupid machines that cut off their fingers.

OK, enough! SawStop's 10" cabinet saw introduces a revolutionary contact detection and brake system that is probably going to spare many people the trouble of going through the missing finger-trace blood-refrigerator-ice-taxi-hospital scenario.

Each saw (every single one, don't worry) comes with a safety system that detects when someone accidentally touches the spinning blade and then stops the blade in 3-5 milliseconds (1/200 th of a second). Here's how it works. The system induces an electrical signal onto the blade and then monitors that signal for changes. The human body's relatively large inherent electrical capacitance and conductivity will cause the signal to drop when a person contacts the blade. When disaster is about to strike, the brake's spring pushes a block of aluminum (a brake pawl) into the teeth of the blade to stop the blade from spinning. The teeth cut into the aluminum and bind, stopping the blade and preserving its cool metal look.

The SawStop cabinet saw has all the features you expect in a cabinet saw including: enclosed cabinet, heavy-duty belt drive, cast iron trunnions, and three or five horsepower motors. In addition, the saw cabinet has a big main bearing for improved kick-back prevention.

SawStop's 10" cabinet costs about $2800. Anyway, a 4 $ standard push stick will probably still let you do the high 5 salute.
