Due to the investments SaskTel has been making lately, good things seem to be on the horizon for the rather small cellular network company. Therefore, its efforts seem to be repaid, as now SaskTel has just released some statements, proudly reporting that the wireless connection data speeds are to be improved considerably.

Such an event development is possible due to the new EV-DO Rev A enhancement technology available for Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) networks, which bumps up the data speeds for both upload and download. In order to enjoy this technology, users have to make use of their EV-DO Rev A capability devices or the connection update will not be available. Moreover, this enhancement is to take effect only in the EV-DO Rev A-covered areas. However, should users try to enjoy the enhancement outside these zones, the mobiles will automatically switch to 1X coverage, as this feature has already been preprogrammed.

Minister of Crown Corporations Ken Cheveldayoff declared on SaskTel's wireless development, “SaskTel’s commitment to offering its customers world-class wireless services is evident from this latest improvement[...]This project to deliver improved wireless data service to residents and businesses across the province will help bring SaskTel’s total investment in digital cellular service to over $170 million.”

Furthermore, such a wireless enhancement includes web browsing, video content download, and video streaming. All these features will be easily accessible and downloads will reach the 2MB/s to 2.3MB/s speeds. Upload speeds will improve considerably as well, plus that this technology is to be available for the La Ronge Dalmeny, Duck Lake, Red Deer Hill and Warman areas.

In order to give more meaning to the previous statements, here's what SaskTel President and CEO Robert Watson has to say regarding their connection enhancement, “With the much higher speeds made possible by EV-DO Rev A technology, and an EV-DO capable device, SaskTel cellular customers will be able to use wireless data services such as web browsing, content downloads, streaming video, streaming radio, email and instant messaging at speeds close to residential internet high speed connections[...]We will continue to invest in our network to provide our customers with the latest wireless technologies over the largest digital cellular network in the province.”
