Internet reacts with fury to Anna Wintour’s decision to have Kim in her Fashion Bible

For years it’s been said that the one thing that Kim Kardashian wanted desperately but could not have because it was being denied to her was to grace the cover of the US version of Fashion Bible Vogue magazine. Today, her dream has come true but the Internet is furious.

The reality star, wearing what looks suspiciously like a wedding gown and showing off her giant engagement ring, is featured on the cover of the publication with rapper fiancé Kanye West, who is shown embracing her lovingly from behind.

As the video embedded at the end of the article will confirm, their daughter North West aka Nori was also present at the shoot and will even be featured in the final spread, when it comes out.

Meanwhile, as Kim is gushing on social media about how she can’t “breath” of excitement over landing the cover, the Internet is also reacting, but in the opposite way. Leading the pack is “Buffy” star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who thinks that having a Kardashian in such a prestigious publication is reason enough to discontinue the subscription for it.

“Well......I guess I'm canceling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me???” she asks on Twitter.

While some have rushed to call her “bitter,” “jealous,” or generically a “hater,” there are many who agree with her: Vogue has never been about what’s hot in showbiz, if by showbiz you understand reality television, Vogue has always been about fashion.

And say what you will about Kim K’s popularity and success, both of which are undeniable, but she’s not haute couture.

Perhaps anticipating the backlash, before the full spread was even released, Anna Wintour issued a statement to set the record straight, shooting down rumors that Kanye West had been pestering her to put Kim on the cover. Kanye has a strong footing in fashion, having released a couple of collections that proved quite popular.

“Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it. I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T,” she says.

“As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue’s cover. He did nothing of the sort. The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true,” Wintour continues.

“There’s barely a strand of the modern media that the Kardashian Wests haven’t been able to master, and for good reason: Kanye is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that,” the Vogue Editor-in-Chief adds.

Yes, but what about the fashion?
