Sapphire Technology, the AMD-loving AIB, is reported to be on its way to unveil a new custom graphics card, the Radeon HD 4870 1GB Toxic. The card is based on ATI's 55nm GPU RV770XT chip, which already attracted attention on its performance capabilities. The fresh 1GB model of the Radeon HD 4870 is said to have been announced for quite some time now, and it seems that the card will be here shortly.

The card features a 256-bit memory interface, 800 parallel processing unit and 1GB of GDDR5 memory. The memory is reported to work at 780MHz, which translates into 4GHz effectively. The card is said to feature CrossFireX support, DirectX 10.1, as well as dual-DVI and HDTV connectivity. The high-definition video playback and gaming capabilities of the card are leveraged, offering enhanced user experience to both multimedia enthusiasts and gamers.

From what we've seen on the news, the Radeon HD 4870 1GB Toxic includes a dual-slot Vapor-X cooler. The cooling solution features the Vapor Chamber Technology (VCT) and comes with three copper heatpipes, which can also be seen in the first image attached to this article. The company worked on the cooling system of the card so as to give it higher performance capabilities at lower temperatures, enabling this way more stable operations.

The fresh 1GB model looks much like the 512MB Toxic version. The 55nm RV770 GPU packs inside 800 Stream Processors and features a frequency of 780 MHz, showing that the card will be slightly overclocked from the 750 MHz featured on stock designs. This boosts the effective memory frequency to 4GHz, up 400MHz from the 3.6GHz present on the stock solutions.

The new Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 1GB Toxic Edition is expected to pop up on the market in the following weeks. No information on pricing has been unveiled so far.
