Sunnyvale, California-based Advanced Micro Devices has recently announced a series of new additions to its computer hardware lineup, including the much anticipated RV790-based Radeon HD4890 graphics card.

One of the main features of the company's latest high-performance, single-GPU graphics card is that it will provide computer enthusiasts with a GPU that can go as high as 1GHz per core although the reference board comes with a GPU speed of 850MHz.

Fortunately, for those that are always looking for the ultimate in GPU performance, Sapphire, one of AMD's leading partners, is expected to roll out the Radeon HD4890 Atomic edition.

This card comes with a pumped-out GPU that works at an impressive 1000MHz per core, while the memory speed has been set up to 4200MHz.

The massive boost in the clock rates of this card will certainly provide enthusiasts with the performance required to run all of the recent gaming applications at high-resolutions, especially since a card like this is overkill for the usual end-user.

The card has a massive dual-core cooling solution and six-pin and eight-pin power connectors. Compared with the reference cards, the Radeon HD 4890 Atomic edition has the additional eight-pin connector, which replaces the six-pin connector on the standard model. Using Sapphire's Vapor-X cooling technology, the Atomic card promises to deliver the performance you'd expect from AMD's fastest single-GPU card on the market.

Unfortunately, the card is not yet official and Sapphire has yet to announce it to the market. However, if you consider that a reference Radeon HD4890 has a starting price of US$235, you can expect something in the lines of US$270-US$300.
