The PLC-XF47 - 15,000 lumens and wireless 1080i resolution

Sanyo's on a roll lately, at least when it comes to projectors. Thus, after announcing only a few days ago its short-throw projector, the company strikes again, this time with the PLC-XF47, allegedly the world's brightest professional-grade LCD projector, capable of generating 15,000 lumens via its 4 (four) 330 W lamps.

Presented at INFOCOMM 2007, the device provides quite a large number of interesting features, but also a couple of relatively disappointing ones. Actually, the biggest disappointment is related to the resolution, since the PLC-XF47 supports a native resolution of just 1024 x 768, which is not bad, but not too great either, at least according to the current standards. Moreover, the projector is only capable of providing a 2000:1 ratio, quite acceptable, although the manufacturers could have done it just a little bit better.

However, the positive aspects greatly outnumber the negative ones in the case of the PLC-XF47. For starters, Sanyo's projector is the company's first model to provide a complete HD-wireless system, which is capable of receiving uncompressed 720p and 1080i data wirelessly, from distances approximately 30 meters (100 feet) away with less than one millisecond of latency. Moreover, the system supports independent frame-by-frame transmissions, as well as video data rates of up to 1.5Gbps and operates in the 20MHz bandwidth.

The projector also includes several technologies that assure a very high quality of the projected images, including the Hybrid Crosstalk Canceller, which eliminates ghosting of images and reduces signal interference on the LCD panels, as well as the Intelligent Sharpness Control system that automatically analyzes the signal components to select the best sharpness setting for clearer sharper pictures. And here's a short list of its most important specs, so you might get a better idea of what this thing can do.

- resolution: 1024 x 768; - contrast ratio: 2000:1; - aspect ratio: 4:3; - throw-distance: 1 meter up to 15.24 meters (40 to 600-inches); - video inputs: DVI-D w/HDCP, Mini D-sub 15 pin, BNC x 5 (RGBHV, Y-Pb/Cb-Pr/Cr, Composite Video), S-Video; - control ports: Serial Input and Output, USB; - dimensions: 581 mm x 252 mm x 812 mm; - weight: 36.5 kilograms.

According to Sanyo, the PLC-XF47 will hit the shelves on October 2007 for a MSRP of around $29,995.00 (yeah, that's almost 30 thousand dollars), which makes it a very exclusive device, targeting a very specific segment of the market.
