Campaign groups have been pleading that people opt for adopting pets instead of buying them for many years now. Some choose to give these pleas due consideration, others ignore them.

Recent news from San Diego says that people living in this American city no longer have the chance to decide if they wish to adopt or buy a cat, a dog or a rabbit.

This is because high officials have passed a bill banning the commercial sale of these animals.

Ecorazzi explains that, under this new legislation, people in San Diego can only get their future pets from animal shelters, humane societies and rescue groups.

This drastic measure is expected to promote animal adoption, and help authorities fight puppy mills that often fail at giving animals the care they need and that sometimes even abuse them.
