Samsung has filed a few design patents for round wearables

It’s not a secret that Motorola’s smartwatch is the most awaited smartwatch to date. Back at Google I/O, the crowd sighed in disappointment when it was announced that the device would only be made available later this summer.

Well, it doesn't really help with the wait, but today I bring you news that Samsung is also looking to tap into that round design goodness.

A while back, a patent filing showing a round Samsung smartwatch equipped with gesture controls showed up and now we have a few more on our hands (as seen at KnowYourMobile).

The documents detail more than one design, so in all possibility Samsung is looking to introduce several models, not just one, or the company is just toying around with different ideas.

The sketches included in the patent show a design quite akin to the Moto 360, with a few differences here and there. Sadly, the patent doesn't go into many details, but the hypothesis is that the round smartwatches could run Tizen, Android Wear, or both.

In one of the images we can spot a sensor located right on the wristband and it will be interesting to see what its use might be. But chances are this is just a camera like we have seen on the Galaxy Gear.

However, one should note that just because a device has been spotted in a patent it doesn't necessary mean it will become a reality.
