If you’re a Samsung fan, you probably know that the Korean tech giant is also in the business of making rugged phones.

Last year, after the company rolled out the Galaxy S5 flagship, it also introduced the Galaxy S5 Active spin-off, which was sold exclusively under AT&T.

Now, word has it that the company is planning to introduce a rugged variation of the current Galaxy S6 flagship sometime in May.

While current Active phones are designed to be immune to drops, knocks and liquid spillage, the Galaxy Active phones of the future might come with other unique properties.

Samsung might want to bring complete flexibility to its rugged phone lineup

A recently published patent reveals that Samsung might be having plans to release a rugged phone with a flexible display at some point in the future.

As you can see for yourself in the schematics above, the phone will be built in such a way as to have protection on the sides. But the most amazing feature is that the whole body of the device seems to be flexible and up for twisting and turning anyway you like.

Unlike the Galaxy Round, whose display stays curved into a fixed position, the upcoming Active models will be given full flexible functionality.

So, what would such a flexible phone bring in your life? According to information in the patent, the design will allow the phone to feature special sections that are to be used to clip the device onto the user’s clothing.

This aspect will in turn eliminate the need for brining cases and armbands accessories into the equation. Given that the phone is so flexible, it could be possible that owners of the handset will be able to wrap it around their arm like a large wearable of sorts.

Samsung has been known to be experimenting with flexible displays for quite some time. Back at MWC 2014, we were told that the Korean tech giant secretly showcased a flexible tablet to partners and VIP members, but we laymen never got the chance to take a look at it.

Naturally, the presence of this patent doesn’t actually indicate that Samsung will release the Galaxy S7 Active of the future with a flexible display. The company might just be experimenting, so don’t hold your breath on seeing such a phone arrive in the wild too soon.
