With a two-year contract agreement

AT&T, the largest North American mobile carrier, has recently added a new Samsung handset to its lineup of products, and that is the a227 (also called SGH-a227).

Presented as a compact device targeted for businessmen and "built for productivity," Samsung a227 is a pretty basic flip phone that should attract users with its messaging features, as well as with its affordable price.

The new Samsung brings a 128 x 160 pixels CSTN internal display with 65K colors, an external screen with only 96 x 96 pixels, quad-band GSM connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with GPRS and EDGE, Web browser, email, Instant Messaging, MMS and SMS capabilities, speakerphone, built-in modem, organizer, polyphonic ringtones, embedded Java games, calendar, alarm clock, and other basic stuff like that. The internal memory of Samsung a227 is of 32MB - unfortunately, this is not expandable, hence users will have to limit the amount of applications and data stored on the phone.

There's no photo camera packed in the new clamshell but, since it is targeted at business users, this should probably not be a problem at all.

The a227 weighs 95 grams (3.35 ounces) and, when not flipped, measures 88.8 x 44.8 x 20 millimeters (3.5 x 1.76 x 0.79 inches). The battery packed in the new clamshell can offer up to 4 hours of talk-time and up to 380 hours of stand-by time. Or, at least, that's what AT&T says.

Samsung SGH-a227 can be bought from AT&T for as little as $9.99 (which, just in case you have any doubts, is nearly ten bucks), by those who also opt for a two-year contract agreement with the blue and white carrier. We're not sure if users can find the a227 in AT&T's stores, but the flip phone can surely be bought from AT&T's Business Center website.
