Today, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has made official its first smartphone running under the Tizen operating system, in the form of Samsung Z.

The handset was unveiled as a quite powerful device, courtesy of a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, as well as with a new outer design when compared to the currently available Android phones in the company’s lineup.

The new Samsung Z was announced with a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display capable of delivering a 1280 x 720 pixels resolution.

Samsung did confirm that the smartphone will sport a quad-core processor inside, but it did not provide further details on it. According to SamMobile, however, it should be a Snapdragon 800 CPU.

The new mobile phone also features 2GB of RAM inside, along with 16GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

Moreover, the new device sports an 8-megapixel camera on the back, which should be able to record videos on full HD resolution, along with a 2.1-megapixel front camera.

The usual set of connectivity capabilities was also included inside the handset, such as LTE-A, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC, as well as with a built-in GPS receiver, and an IR sensor.

On top of that, Samsung has unveiled the phone with a fingerprint sensor and with a heart rate monitor, as well as with a 2600mAh battery, which is complemented by the Ultra Power Saving Mode that was launched on Galaxy S5 (the Download Booster is also available on this smartphone).

Samsung Z runs under Tizen OS 2.2.1, which should be able to provide users with an appealing experience, including improved performance capabilities and better memory management capabilities.

At the same time, the smartphone OS is said to include a great web browsing experience, and a distinctive home and application layout, along with a series of personalization capabilities, allowing users to change the UI look courtesy of various themes.

Overall, the experience that the new Samsung Z will be able to deliver should be in line with what other Samsung smartphones have to offer at the moment, mostly due to the fact that the company is working on offering a similar look and feel across devices.

The new Samsung Z is set to arrive on shelves in Russia in the third quarter of the year, which expected to become available in other markets out there at a later date. Unfortunately, the device might not land in the US and Europe at all.

Apparently, Samsung will also showcase the phone at the Tizen developer conference on June 3. Hopefully, more on its availability will be unveiled there, along with details on the smartphone’s pricing.
