That means it would have to ship around 40 million by late December

During the fourth quarter of 2012, Samsung's tablet market share increased to 15.1%, which is twice the 7.3% of earlier quarters.

Hoping that the trend will continue, or at least that later 2013 quarters would compensate for the slowdown in Q1, Samsung expects many more shipments this year.

In fact, the company wants to ship around 40 million tablets in 2013, about twice as many as in 2012.

The Galaxy Note 8.0 and upcoming Windows 8-loaded models will have their work cut out for them.

Naturally, the Galaxy Tab series will also have to ship as well as possible.

The difficulty of disassociating Samsung from Google will further boost the former's shipments.

2013 is shaping up to be the year of affordable and efficient tablet devices, even as high-end versions keep piling up.
