Average phone with some pleasant surprises

Telus has just expanded its mobile phone offer by taking in the Samsung U540 handset. The mobile phone brings some of the average performances that handset users might need, all packed in a fairly compact and stylish design, as Samsung has gotten us used to see.

At the dimensions of 99 x 51 x 17 mm and 80 grams, Samsung U540 proves to be a slim and comfortable one, especially for a clamshell. Its specifications bring nothing impressive, just as its stylish design fails in standing out from the huge number of elegant clamshells that Samsung has developed over the years.

The phone has two display screens, just to increase its functionality. The internal one has a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels, while the external one comes with 96 x 96 pixels. None of them is out of the ordinary and proves to be the average that clamshells usually bring to their users.

In terms of connectivity, Samsung U540 comes equipped with GPRS and also has Bluetooth 1.1 enabled. The phone lacks all the evolved performances that other handsets might be capable of providing, but brings a pleasant surprise due to the fact that it also includes instant messaging and USB connectivity. It also has WAP and the possibility of viewing xHTML pages, which might prove to be great under many circumstances.

There is also a 1.3 megapixel camera that will manage to take images of an only average quality. The most impressive aspect regarding this clamshell is that it also includes GPS navigation, a feature that only few fortunate handsets include. Samsung U540 also has an MP3 player included, although this does not necessarily make it a music phone.

Samsung U540 will be available from now on at Telus for CAD 70 with a three-year term, or for CAD 250 without any contract.
