I have recently told you that tablet shipments in Q4 2013 managed to reach 78.45 million units worldwide, but usually the holiday season is the loftiest period for customers to acquire such products, so the big numbers shouldn't come as a huge surprise.

But since we've moved on to Q1 2014, things will be going back to a more normal pace. Recent research posted by DigiTimes suggests 64.14 million tablets will be shipped this quarter, which constitutes 20.8% decrease on-quarter and a 10.9% increase on-year.

Following last year’s trend, iPads will take 29% of the shipments while brand vendors working with the Android platform will snatch 36.7%. The remaining 34.3% is attributed to white-box vendors.

Taking things down by brand, Apple will continue to lead with 29% market share, while Samsung will follow-in at close distance with 23.1%. Lenovo and ASUS will overpower Amazon, with 4.7% and 2.7% respectively, while Acer, Microsoft and Dell will get a minor portion of the slate business (1% and below).
