Announced at the end of June, Samsung's Series 3 notebooks have now started to be come available in the US, where Amazon carries both a 14- and a 15.6-inch model, with prices starting at $591.

The Samsung Series 3 line will include mobile computers with displays ranging from 11.6 all the way up to 15.6 inches, but, despite the common naming scheme, these include different features depending on the screen size.

The smaller models are specially designed in order to sport a thin and light design, but lack optical drives and removable batteries, while larger models get these features, but loose some of their portability.

Moving back to the two Series 3 notebooks listed by Amazon, these feature pretty much the same specifications, and are built around a second-generation Intel Core i3-2310M processor that features dual computing cores clocked at 2.1GHz with Hyper-Threading support.

The Intel processor is seconded by 4GB of system memory as well as by a 500GB hard drive in the 15.6-inch model, or by a 640HDD in the 14-inch laptop. Both of these drives have a spindle speed of 5400RPM.

The rest of the features list includes the usual 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity as well as VGA and HDMI video outputs.

USB 3.0 support seems to be the only thing lacking, so users will have to settle with USB 2.0 for their external data storage needs.

As noted earlier, prices for Samsung's Series 3 notebooks starts at $591.18, for the 15.6-inch model, while the more compact 14-inch laptop is priced at $657.93.

The 12.1-inch Series 3 that became available for pre-order at the beginning of July for $749.99 still hasn't started shipping, but we do know that it will be powered by an Intel Core i5-2410M processor which is paired with 4GB of system memory. (via Electronista)
