AMD's new E-Series accelerated processing units are making their way into more and more notebook designs with every passing day, and recently Samsung has just showcased a Series 3 laptop that is powered by the E-450 APU.

AMD's new low power processor is a tweaked version of the E-350 is meant to replace, and raises the operating frequency of the two cores from 1.6GHz to 1.65GHz, while also adding a series of new features.

The most important of these is the inclusion of the Turbo Core technology, which can temporary boost the frequency of the processors cores in order to deliver improved single-threaded performance when the need arises.

Another new feature is the introduction of support for DDR3 memory running at 1333MHz, which should significantly improve the bandwidth available to the integrated graphics, all without affecting the TDP of the chip as this is rated at the same 18W as its predecessor.

Samsung has installed this APU inside an elegant and thin chassis that weights no more than 1.21Kg (2.66 pounds) and also includes a 11.6-inch display with an alti-glare coating.

The rest of Samsung's Series 3 notebook configuration includes 4GB of system memory and a 500GB hard drive with a spindle speed of 5400RPM, while graphics is provided by the Radeon core built inside the AMD APU.

As far as connectivity is concerned, users will get all the usual features like WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Ethernet and Bluetooth 3.0, but also VGA and HDMI outputs for connecting the notebook to an external display of HDTV.

All these are powered by a 4-cell battery pack that Samsung states can provide up to 7 hours of running time while lasting about 1,000 recharge cycles, three times more than a traditional battery.

This Samsung Series 3 notebook is expected to retail for 419€ ($575 US), and will arrive in Europe later this month. (via Notebook Italia)
