Much like almost all of the other PC vendors in the industry, Samsung Electronics has also jumped on Intel's CULV bandwagon, having recently announced the introduction of its new, ultraportable X-series laptops. The new lineup includes the X120, X420 and X520 we detailed in a previous article, but the South Korean company has just debuted another model, the X170, coming to expand the PC vendor's Intel-based, ultraportable lineup. The new system reportedly boasts the same screen size as the previously announced X120 and should provide users with about nine hours of operation, on a six-cell battery pack.

The details on the new X-series laptop from Samsung are a bit scarce, but, as it turns out, the new, ultraportable system is powered by a Core 2 Duo (CULV) processor and comes with all the regular specifications available on today's ultraportable PCs. The X170 boasts wireless WiFi and a Bluetooth connectivity, as well as a 3-in-1 card reader and a 1.3MP webcamera, all inside a chassis that is just 25.4mm thick. No word on the graphics chip, but the laptop is featured with a small, 11.6-inch 16:9 LCD screen.

Samsung's X-series laptops are the company's CULV-based armada of ultraportable laptops, designed to provide customers with an alternative to some of the other CULV-powered, ultra-thin laptops from the likes of Acer, Asus, Dell and others. These ultra-thin, Intel-based products are expected to become a choice for the mainstream market, with PC vendors hoping to see the same popularity level that has been recorded with netbook systems.

Unfortunately, we have no details regarding the availability and pricing of Samsung's new X170 ultraportable laptop, but the system should become available at various retailers, before this year's holiday shopping season, or roughly about the time Windows 7 debuts.
