SPH-S4000 - a new motion-recognition phone

Samsung has released two Korea-only phones that come with a nifty feature: gesture recognition. The SPH-4000 and SCH-S400 phones come with software to take advantage of this feature.

SPH-4000 it's a new motion-recognition phone with health monitoring and leisure functions. The S4000 has a motion sensing capability, which allows the user to have full control of MP3 playback simply by moving the phone from side to side. The motion sensing capability will also add a new dimension to mobile games. The handset is loaded with "Bobsleigh", "Shooting" and other games, which are activated by the user gesture. The beat-box, music box and motion effects can easily be controlled by a simple movement of users' hand.

It has a built-in pedometer that can count the number of steps taken by the user throughout the day. In addition, the S4000's sophisticated sensors can monitor temperature, while it also accommodates a compass which comes handy for those who enjoy traveling, hiking or other outdoor activities.

The external LCD has a circular shape that can be used as a viewfinder to take pictures while the phone remains closed.

S4000, which weighs only 100 grams, is 88mm long and 28mm thick, it has a 1.76 inch, 262k-colour TFT-LCD display and a 1.3M-pixel CMOS camera.

The S4000 will first be available at the end of this month in Korea, at around US $400.
