South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new handset in its already popular Galaxy S family of devices, following last year's availability of Samsung Galaxy S and this year's launch of Samsung Galaxy S II. Following tradition, the new handset might arrive on shelves as Samsung Preps Galaxy S III, with a possible release window set for this fall.

Apparently, Samsung is determined to release the new handset as a true competitor against Apple's iPhone 5, which should arrive on shelves sometime in September.

Only rumored for the time being, the new Apple device is expected to raise the bar in mobile communications and performance, though it remains to be seen how much it would be able to innovate when compared with some of the latest Android devices out there.

Currently, the first LTE-capable smartphones are already available for purchase, and the same applies to the first dual-core ones. Not to mention that 3D-capable smartphones were already launched.

Samsung Galaxy S II, the latest flagship smartphone from the company, comes with a dual-core 1.2GHz application processor, and is capable of delivering impressive performance when compared to what other handsets can offer.

Since Samsung did not unveiled a 3D-capable handset as of now, and rivals LG and HTC did, we could expect for the said Galaxy S III smartphone to arrive on shelves with such features, especially since its name would fit.

However, this is only a supposition for the time being, even if rumor has it that Samsung would indeed boost all hardware inside the new device, so as to make it more appealing and more competitive.

Nothing was officially confirmed on the matter for the time being, but it might not be too long before additional details on this emerge, especially since Samsung is said to plan on releasing a new flagship device once every six or eight months.
