The next flagship smartphone will fall in line with its predecessors

South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has yet to provide details on what its upcoming flagship Galaxy S IV smartphone will have to offer to users, but one thing appears to be certain: the device will sport a plastic case.

Apparently, the company is very fond of this material, as it is bendable and can better absorb physical impact, and feels that it should continue using it in more smartphones.

Reports on the handset vendor planning such a move for the Galaxy S IV started to emerge online several days ago, and they have been already confirmed, it seems.

Speaking to CNET, Y.H. Lee, executive vice president of Samsung's mobile business, has confirmed that plastic cases are the company’s first choice when it comes to smartphones, which clearly suggests that Galaxy S IV won’t be designed differently.

The plastic back cover also feels light, although the plastic feeling that some users might have had with the Galaxy S III would still be there.

However, she also said that Samsung had strived to build the upcoming Android flagship model in a manner that would provide users with both a premium-feeling and practical functionality.

"I think the next product has a nice balance between this. We listen to the market and try to accommodate," Lee has reportedly mentioned.

Previous rumors suggested that Galaxy S IV might hit shelves with a quad-core Snapdragon processor inside, a 5-inch full HD screen, 2GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, while others claimed that Samsung would pack it with an 8-core CPU.

One way or the other, the South Korean vendor is also expected to include a new set of software enhancements inside the device, so as to differentiate it even better from rivals such as Sony Xperia Z, HTC One, or the LG Optimus G Pro.

Galaxy S IV is set to make an official appearance on March 14, when Samsung is set to unveil it during a press conference held in New York. Samsung also promised to stream the event live in Times Square.
