South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is reportedly gearing up for the launch of a new device in its Galaxy Grand series, and should make it official at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next year.

The new device is expected to land on shelves under the name of Samsung Galaxy Grand Lite (GT-I9060), with specs that will put it between the original Galaxy Grand and the newly unveiled Galaxy Grand 2.

According to SamMobile, the upcoming mobile phone will hit shelves with a 5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a WVGA (480 x 800 pixels) resolution.

Moreover, the smartphone should pack a 1.2GHz quad-core processor inside, complemented by 1GB of RAM. It is also rumored to pack 8GB of internal memory.

The specifications list of the new mobile phone will also include a microSD memory card slot, along with a 2100mAh battery.

On the back, the upcoming Galaxy Grand Lite should feature a 5-megapixel camera, which will be paired with a standard VGA camera on the front.

The yet unannounced smartphone runs under Google’s Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system at the moment, but it is expected to be launched with Android 4.3 loaded on top.

Apparently, Samsung might also pack the new device with support for two SIM cards, the same as its predecessors. However, nothing has been confirmed on the matter for the time being.

Rumor has it that the new mobile phone will land on shelves in White, Midnight Black, Lime Green, and Orange, and that it will become available for purchase sometime in the fifth week of 2014.

The new device is expected to prove popular in emerging markets, and in areas where dual-SIM devices are highly sought for, such as China and India. However, it remains to be seen whether Samsung will price it in a range that will make it highly appealing to users or not.
