Samsung Omnia was launched in India a few days ago for 335 USD (275 EUR) off contract. Today, the smartphone hit shelves in the UK, but it has been priced a bit higher.

UK-based retailer Phones 4u will be among the first to offer the Samsung Omnia M with Windows Phone 7.5 onboard. Beginning August 1, the device will be available for free on contract from 20.50 GBP a month.

However, customers who do not want to commit to a long-term contract will be able to purchase the Omnia M for no less than 290 GBP (455 USD/370 EUR) upfront.

Unfortunately, Samsung Omnia M is excessively overpriced to be a good deal for Windows Phone fans. The smartphone’s prequel, Samsung Omnia W is a much better deal even though it comes with a slightly smaller display.

There’s more to it, as Phones 4u announced it will exclusively stock the Samsung Omnia M for two months before any other UK retailer.

This seems to be one of the reasons the smartphone is so expensive in comparison with other Windows Phone devices in its range.

The Omnia M is equipped with a mid-range 1GHz single-core processor and packs 384 MB of RAM. The phone’s strong point is the 4.0-inch WVGA Super AMOLED touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution and 16 million colors.

We are delighted to exclusively offer the Samsung Omnia M, Samsung's latest handset running Windows 7.5, two months before it will be available via any other UK retailer. Our track record of launching Samsung devices and Windows Phones is incredibly strong and our dedicated Samsung zones in our Oxford Street and Westfield London stores provide the ultimate destination for anyone wanting to buy this Samsung device with Windows Phone. Our retail team is extensively trained on, and passionate about all Samsung products,” said Scott Hooton, chief commercial officer at Phones 4u.
