Although rumors about an LTE-enabled Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet surfaced just a few days after the standard version was launched on the market, it took Samsung several months to announced the new device.

Samsung has just confirmed the launch of its Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE tablet, along with an LTE version of its popular Samsung Galaxy S II.

The announcement does not come as a surprise, especially that new about the LTE tablet leaked this week.

Apparently, one of the first carriers to launch the Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE will be Telstra who plans to start offering its first LTE services later this year.

Furthermore, Verizon Wireless is also expected to release the tablet sometime in November, but the information has yet to be confirmed.

In Australia, Telstra is planning to fire up its LTE network later this year, and it seems that the wireless carrier might have the new LTE-capable Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet PC available for purchase soon after.

"With the introduction of GALAXY S II LTE and GALAXY Tab 8.9 LTE, we will take the capabilities of these devices to a whole new level. LTE redefines the user experience made possible by these devices and opens entirely new possibilities in terms of content viewing, sharing, quality and connectivity," said JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung's Mobile Communications Business.

The new Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE is a 0.3mm thinner than the standard version, at 8.9mm and is equipped with an improved 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

Those who are not familiar with the specs sheet of the standard Galaxy Tab 8.9 should know that the tablet is powered by a 1.GHz dual-core CPU, complemented by an ULP GeForce GPU.

The tablet will run Google's Honeycomb operating system and packs 1GB of RAM, 16GB (32GB or 64GB) of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The rest of the hardware configuration is the same, including the display's 800 x 1280 pixels resolution and Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity.

Price and availability details will probably be unveiled later this week during IFA 2011 trade fair, in Berlin.
