Samsung's potential deal with HP may still be up in the air, but the same cannot be said about its newfound partnership with Universal Display Corp., a company based in the US.

Users may or may not have stumbled upon a certain rumor that says a certain company's PC division will be bought by another.

For those that want to get a clear idea of things, Samsung might end up being the one to take HP's whole PC business off its hands.

Whether this will happen is something that only time will tell, but Samsung has, in the meantime, been up to different things.

One of said things was the establishing of a partnership between the Samsung Mobile Display division and US-based Universal Display Corp.

For those that do to know, Samsung Mobile Display is a joint venture between Samsung Electronics Co. and Samsung SDI Co.

The partnership with Universal Display will enable the faster research and development of next-generation panels, probably involving OLED.

Though still not on par with LCDs, OLEDs are expected to steadily steal their market share, thanks to power efficiency and picture quality advantages, as well as better response time.

"The Universal Display and Samsung Mobile Display have jointly developed an advanced AM OLED (active matrix organic light-emitting diode) materials," Samsung Mobile Display said in a statement. "Under the partnership, we expect to bring the AM OLED technology one step higher."

No financial details were disclosed in the fairly succinct press release, but it is fairly clear that the patents in phosphorescent materials that UDC holds will be a prime element in their efforts. After all, it is those materials that are responsible for boosting brightness and efficiency of OLED panels.

What remains is to wait and see how quick the two are in delivering some new products based on whatever ideas their brainstorming sessions spawn.
