South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has launched today on the UK market a new touchscreen device, the Genio Touch, a handset that will come outside the UK under the name of Corby. The new mobile phone has been designed mainly for the young users in the country, the company states, and comes with a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, as well as with the phone maker's TouchWiz interface.

The specifications list of the fresh phone includes a 2-megapixel photo snapper, as well as support for FM radio, haptic feed-back, integration with social networking sites, including Facebook and Twitter (and with upload to Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket and YouTube capabilities), song recognition software, and a series of color versions available, such as Jamaican Yellow (or “yellow”) and Minimal White (or “white”).

“The launch of the Genio range in the UK and Ireland gives the market another clear indication, and support to our vision, drive and determination, that we can build on our success in the youth market. By providing one of the most innovative and stylish full touch-screen models, tailored specifically to this audience, we are confident that Samsung can increase its presence in this challenging and fiercely competitive segment,” Mark Mitchinson, VP, Samsung Mobile UK, recently commented when announcing the device.

According to TechRadar, Samsung unveiled that the handset was to come to all major carriers in the country, but the Jamaican Yellow would be available only via The Carphone Warehouse. At the same time, the news site states that the price tag for the phone has been set at £60, but nothing is official yet, and the device might prove to be a little more expensive. One other thing that should be mentioned is that Samsung is reported to have celebrated the launch of Genio Touch at an event where girl band The Saturdays was also present.
