For now, just in Taiwan

Samsung is one of the world's best-known manufacturers of LCD TVs and monitors, which has launched quite an extensive line-up of such devices over time. Nevertheless, none of the company's previous offerings compares to what you're about to see as follows, namely the 57-inch LCD monitor, a part of the line-up recently launched by the Korean company on the Taiwanese market.

According to an article by Max Wang and Emily Chuang published on DigiTimes, this device is by far the largest monitor ever launched on the Taiwanese market. As mentioned earlier, it's the top-range model from a whole new series of 16 LCD monitors that Samsung announced for Taiwan, with sizes ranging from 19 to 57 inches.

Widescreen LCD monitors are not exactly a novelty for Samsung as the company has already launched 32-, 40-, and 52-inch models, used mainly for public display purposes. However, according to the two reporters from DigiTimes, the sales of said monitors are not exactly "blooming", although the company claims that the new model will actually help boost the company's profits (quite a questionable statement, if you ask me).

Nevertheless, there's also some bad news related to this new model. Thus, it seems that owners won't be able to use it as a TV, since it employs a whole different panel technology. However, despite of this shortcoming, the company claims that it wants to ship as many as 150,000 units in Taiwan alone, an increase of around 15.4% from the previous year.

However, there is some bad news as well. Thus, first of all, it seems that the Korean company has decided to phase-out the 4:3 LCDs this year and will re-focus its activities on the 22-inch-and-larger displays. Moreover, the prices for LCD displays will also go up, considering the fact that the ASP (average selling price) of LCD panels is going up around the world.
